The Chicago State men's basketball team and senior Christian Wall will compete in the South Padre Island Invitational this November

CHICAGO – The Chicago State University (CSU) men’s basketball team and head coach Tracy Dildy has announced that it will compete in the annual South Padre Island Invitational in South Padre Island, Texas on Nov. 26-27, 2010.

Teams joining the Cougars in this year’s tournament are BYU, St. Mary’s (Calif.), Texas Tech, South Florida, Mississippi Valley State, Liberty and Georgia Southern.

“It’s a great opportunity for our program and it shows you how far this program has came now that we’re events like this. When you talk about playing in the South Padre Island Invitational they have a great field this year. You talk about playing great teams like BYU and St. Mary’s, you’re talking about two clear Top 25 programs,” Dildy stated.

The first two rounds will be played at BYU, St. Mary’s, Texas Tech and South Florida from Nov. 19-22 with the final two rounds being held at the South Padre Island Convocation Center during Thanksgiving weekend. Ticket information will be released later this summer for the final rounds.

CSU opens tournament play on Nov. 20 in Provo, Utah against BYU with the second tourney contest being at St. Mary’s in Moraga, Calif., three days later. The Cougars’ full 2010-11 schedule will be announced later this summer.

“I think it’s a great event and we are appreciative for being invited to play,” said Dildy. “It’s an honor to be playing against some of those teams in this tournament.”
