ROCKFORD, Ill.—For the first time in program history, Chicago State women's soccer claimed its first division I win after beating the Valpo Crusaders 1-0 last Saturday at 12 p.m. CT at the Mercyhealth Sportscore Two in the 2019 Puma Cup College Showcase.
Multiple division I teams participated in the Puma Cup College Showcase on April 5
th-7
th including Loyola University Chicago, University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, and Northern Illinois University.
The game was tied at 0-0 for the entire first half. Both the Cougars and the Crusaders were scoreless for the majority the second half until the 85
th minute. The Cougars progressed the ball from the back and advanced the ball forward through multiple Cougar exchanges. With 5 minutes left in the second half,
Sara Quevedo (Lomo Blanco, Spain) scored the first and only goal of the game from inside the box.
Carol Lage (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Centro Educacional Anisio Teixeira) assisted
Quevedo in the goal.
Judith Sorribes (Barcelona, Spain, Bisbe Berenguer) also helped lead the shut-out and keep the Crusaders scoreless.
The Cougars will return back for Spring season action tomorrow at Lewis University in a 9v9 tournament.
