Chicago State Head Men's and Women's Tennis Coach
Jack Barton announced today
Adesuwa Osabuohien has been named associate head coach for both the men's and women's tennis teams.
"Adey will be fantastic for our team going into this season and beyond," Barton said. "Her experience is going to be key in helping our teams understand what it takes to be champions on and off the court. I'm really excited to see the impact that she will have. The team is excited and cannot wait to work with her."
Osabuohien, a Chicago native, has played professional tennis on the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) and International Tennis Federation (ITF) tours since March 2018 while also working as a physical therapist aide at the Windsor Estates Rehabilitation Facility since October 2020. She played tennis collegiately at both Stony Brook in Long Island, New York and Northern Illinois University where she obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree in Rehabilitation Services.
Upon graduation, Osabuohien was a tennis coach at XS Tennis in Chicago where she created individualized plans that supported the goals and needs of specific athletes, assisted players with injuries and physical setbacks by developing plans with modified techniques and helped players master their forehand, backhand, and service techniques.
On the court, Osabuohien was a bronze medal winner at the all-African Olympic Games in 2019, earned All-MAC Conference honors and went 36-1 as a senior and participated with her team in two NCAA tournaments. She was ranked number 1-10 throughout the in Midwest in juniors singles and doubles divisions. She is also a current member of the Billy Jean Cup team representing Nigeria.
Osabuohien was trained by USA coaching legend Jack Sharpe and by Kamau Murray who won the 2017 US Open Coaches award.

Chicago State University Athletics is comprised of 15 intercollegiate teams involving over 150 student-athletes that compete in basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, tennis, indoor and outdoor track and volleyball. CSU held memberships in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and NCAA Division II before transitioning to NCAA Division I in 1994. The Men's Outdoor Track & Field 4x100-Meter Relay team were 2019 Honorable Mention All-Americans and WAC Champions. Their feat marked the first time the Chicago State's men's track & field program was represented at the national meet.
