A year ago today, we pressed pause.
On March 12, 2020, the NCAA canceled March Madness for the first time. Major League Baseball delayed its season. Countless festivals, conferences, tournaments and gatherings were axed. Hand sanitizer disappeared from shelves. So did toilet paper, medical supplies and many food staples.
Today, on March 12, 2021, many of our daily customs would be foreign to our younger selves.
Nine days before life changed so severely, Chicago State made the difficult decision to cancel its scheduled men's basketball trip to face Seattle U. At the time, it was the first cancelation by a major sport due to the virus.
At the time, Charles said, "Chicago State athletics views our decision as a reaffirmation of our commitment to the well-being, health and safety of our student athletes."
