CHICAGO – Chicago State head men's basketball coach Gerald Gillion announced today that Baronton Terry has been named the associate head men's basketball coach for the Cougars while Tramaine Stevens has been named assistant men's basketball coach/recruiting coordinator.

Terry joins the Cougars men's basketball program after more than 20 years in the high school ranks, most recently leading Olympic High School in Charlotte, N.C., to conference championships each season he coached the program (2017-21), and was named Southwest 4A Coach of the Year on three occasions (2017, 2019, 2020). Prior to leading OHS, he was the head coach at West Charlotte High School (2008-16) where he earned three regional championships (2008, 2009, 2010), a North Carolina state 4A championship (2011), state 4A runner up (2012) and was a two-time regional finalist (2014, 2015). Terry was also named Southwest 4A Coach of the Year at West Charlotte in 2016.

Terry started his high school coaching career at Miami (FL) Northwestern High School where he earned Miami Dade County Coach of the Year following his first two seasons (1998, 1999) before earning State of Florida Regional Championships four consecutive seasons (2001, 2002, 2003, 2004). During his high school coaching tenure he has been named Coach of the Year six times.

"Baronton brings over 30 years of experience to the Cougars program," Gillion said. "He's going to be tremendous for the university both on and off the court. He is well respected throughout the basketball community and he's well-rounded, a teacher of the game, a teacher of life and a tremendous recruiter."

Tramaine Stevens also joins the Cougars with an accomplished resume as a high school coach. He was the head varsity coach at Miramar High School (Miami, Florida) and compiled a record of 111-44 in six seasons (2015-21). He was named Florida 7A Dairy Farms Coach of the Year, Sun Sentinel Coach of the Year, Miami Herald Coach of the Year and Broward County Coach of the Year following the 2019-20 season when he led his squad to a 24-6 record, a 7A Florida state championship. That squad also won the Tarkanian Classic Championship in Las Vegas. Stevens was also named Broward County Coach of the Year following the 2017-18 season when his team won the BCAA Big 8, earned district and regional championships and advanced to the state tournament final four.

"Tramaine's work ethic is unprecedented," Gillion said. "He's one of those, first in the gym, last to leave type of guys. He's great on the recruiting trail, he's able to connect with student-athletes and I expect him to have an impact recruiting the Chicagoland area."
