MILWAUKEE, Wis. — Chicago State University (1-10) fell to Marquette (2-10) 7-0 on Sunday at the Sprovieri Tennis Complex. CSU was unable to secure any victories in both singles and doubles play.
Marquette secured the doubles point with victories on No. 1 and No. 3 doubles courts. Blake Roegner and Remi St Laurent defeated Chicago State's
Justin Atkins and
Joao Teixeira, 6-2, at No. 1 doubles. Ivan Vazquez and Evan Glebov followed with a 6-2 win over
Reed Gahagan and
Yurii Hoida at No. 3 doubles. The match on No. 2 doubles between
Andrew Kunaka and
Chad Valdes of the Cougars and Hugh Perrill and Kristian Blagoev of Marquette was left unfinished with CSU leading 5-4.
In singles, Marquette extended its lead as Roegner overcame Hoida, 7-5, 7-6, at No. 1 singles. Valdes' match against Blagoev at No. 2 singles was left unfinished, with the score at 6-1, 4-6, 0-96. Clayton Anderson added a point for Marquette with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Teixeira at No. 3 singles.
St Laurent secured another point for Marquette, rallying for a 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 victory over Kunaka at No. 4 singles. Luke Coppage defeated Gahagan, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 5 singles, while Glebov closed the match with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Atkins at No. 6 singles.
