CHICAGO, Ill. — Chicago State freshman
Maria Quintero has been named to the 2026 NEC Women's Golf Second Team All-Conference, the league announced Tuesday. The honor caps a standout debut season for the Venezuela native, who quickly emerged as one of the conference's most consistent young performers.
Quintero, a graduate of Doral Academy Charter Middle/High School, made an immediate impact in her first year with the Cougars. Despite battling early-season adversity, including injury, she delivered steady improvement throughout the spring and showcased her competitive edge on the conference's biggest stage.
Her performance at the NEC Women's Golf Championship highlighted her growth, poise, and determination. Quintero posted one of her strongest tournaments of the year, demonstrating the focus and resilience that defined her freshman campaign.
Beyond her on-course success, Quintero became a valued presence within the team environment. Her positive mindset, steady leadership, and commitment to supporting her teammates helped strengthen the culture of a young and ambitious Chicago State squad.
Quintero's all-conference selection marks an important milestone in her collegiate career and a promising sign of what's ahead.
"I'm really proud of how I grew this season," Quintero said. "I learned a lot, stayed focused on improving, and tried to help the team however I could. This motivates me even more for what's next."
With her freshman year now complete, Quintero looks ahead to building on her momentum as the Cougars continue their climb in the NEC.
